Drive via Paaso and Akhinkoski: a full day or a relaxed two-day trip based in Sortavala.

Full day
About 8–10 hours including lunch and a reserve. Start in Sortavala in the morning and avoid a tight onward train connection.
- Day 1
Paaso, waterfalls and the marble canyon
Morning at Paaso, then Akhinkoski; Ruskeala after lunch. Return to Sortavala in the evening.
The upper visit allowances already fill most of the day. If queues develop, drop optional activities rather than cutting safe walking or driving time.
Relaxed two days
A base in Sortavala and a free evening leave room to explore. This is the preferred version for families and photography.
- Day 1
Sortavala and Paaso
A town walk and a separate outing to the trail.
Choose one town museum. Allow 60–90 minutes at Paaso in daylight and leave island excursions for another day.
- Day 2
Akhinkoski and Ruskeala
Waterfalls in the morning, followed by 3–5 hours in the park and lunch.
Leave the evening for your return. Check any booked tour time before arranging the rest of the park visit.
Driving and season
Allow 1.5–2.5 hours for driving, excluding queues, traffic delays and walks. Calculate the exact route from your accommodation.
Use the full itinerary with sufficient daylight. In winter choose two days and check trail conditions.

The main part of the day. On 28 October 2026 the park lists 10:00–20:00. Underground tours and other activities require extra time.
If plans change
If trails close or ice forms, replace Paaso with a town walk. After a late arrival, leave Ruskeala for the following day.
